Letters of Recommendation
- If the scholarship requires a “Letter of Recommendation,” ask someone who knows you personally, academically or professionally, who can speak to your positive character traits. Typically this is a teacher, school counselor or employer. This should NOT be a family member.
- Ask them if they will be a reference BEFORE you put their name down on an application.
- ASK THEM EARLY. Allow the teacher or other reference 2-3 weeks to get the letter in. Follow up with them as the deadline is approaching. Afterwards, send them a thank you note or email so they know how much you appreciate their help!
